Landscape for Laura
Acrylic on Wooden Panel
20" x 28"
2013

I created a watercolor study for this painting many summers ago, and when I began this larger painting I referred to the original study. For over a year, on and off, I worked to try to represent the beauty and emotion of the scene. The early stages of this painting were frankly dull and uninspiring, and I avoided working on it. However, I was motivated to finish and salvage this piece as a gift to my youngest sister. So I changed the cloudscape, and darkened the palette. I wanted to breathe life back into it. This is the final result, a departure from the original watercolor study and a transformation of the beginning stages.
