Oils and Acrylics
This painting was inspired by a hike to the top of Jockey Cap (a large boulder with a trail that quickly summits to view mountains of New Hampshire and western Maine).
There had been heavy storms to the west that afternoon. After a short hike through wet woods and over slippery rocks, a stunning view revealed itself. I photographed and sketched and have returned several times over the past couple years with the intent to capture the integrity of the mountains and essence of that day.
I began this actual painting in my studio near Chicago. It was completed in Maine and is included in Fryeburg Academy’s permanent art collection (just up the road from Jockey Cap) in Fryeburg, Maine.
