After a Storm on Jockey Cap
After a Storm on Jockey Cap
Acrylic on Linen
30" x 50"
2009

This painting was inspired by a hike to the top of Jockey Cap (a large boulder with a trail that quickly summits to view mountains of New Hampshire and western Maine).

There had been heavy storms to the west that afternoon. After a short hike through wet woods and over slippery rocks, a stunning view revealed itself. I photographed and sketched and have returned several times over the past couple years with the intent to capture the integrity of the mountains and essence of that day.

I began this actual painting in my studio near Chicago. It was completed in Maine and recently donated to Fryeburg Academy (just up the road from Jockey Cap) in Fryeburg, Maine.
